The First Peoples of the Salish Sea (Puget Sound) area where I live, have always been known as Weaving Cultures. Basketry is one of the material products of this place. It is one of many methods of passing on all types of information about how to live together and how to understand the world we live in. Weaving with plant fibers is a living traditional art form born from a cumulative body of traditional ecological knowledge. It has developed over time immemorial and been passed from generation to generation to the present day. I thank all my teachers for generously sharing with me making me a part of this continuum. I will be writing about my ongoing experiences with the plant fibers I work with, and my personal observations of the special places where these plants grow. I apologize in advance for anything I may incorrectly represent. Please stay tuned for ongoing entries.
