On the second weekend each November, Cultural Arts Foundation Northwest presents the Art in the Woods Studio Tour. Many talented artists who mostly work in isolation throughout the year come out of the “woods” to share their work. The studios are open Friday through Sunday from 10-5 each day. This is a fun event for those who like to see art, be able to talk to the artists, and to have the adventure of finding these studios hidden throughout the North Kitsap area.
This year it is my good fortune to be welcomed back into Sydni Sterling’s Studio in Indianola, Washington. Her beautiful paintings seem the perfect complement to my plant fiber art and basketry. Over the years Syd reimagined and rebuilt a small garage, putting in lots of recycled windows, building moveable hinged inner walls on wheels, installing her own sky-lights, flooring, and LED lights, and building a covered porch entry area. This year we fully packed her studio, and by Sunday almost everything we’d made had found its way to new homes.
We are both incredibly grateful for everyone who came to visit us this weekend. When Syd is painting or I am weaving, we may have an idea that is compelling us to do our work, but it is affirming when we see and hear the responses to those ideas from our customers.
Art in the Woods is over now, but I’m glad I took a few pictures to remember a fun weekend.
We hope you’ll come visit us again next November!
Thanks for listening.
