Art In The Woods Studio Tour 2013

November 11, 2013 By Melinda

A big thank you to all the friends, neighbors, former students and loyal art-appreciators, who came by to see Sydni Sterling and I this past weekend during the annual Art in the Woods Studio Tour. It is always a delightful experience for me to exhibit my sculptural work, in natural plant materials, next to Sydni’s paintings, in acrylics, that are incredibly rich with the colors and light from the places she has traveled. We hope to see you all again for the next Art in the Woods Studio Tour, always in November over the Veteran’s Day weekend. Many thanks to the Cultural Arts Foundation Northwest for sponsoring this wonderful opportunity for the public to meet North Kitsap artists in their studios. (Cafnw.org)
If you would like to visit Sydni and I next summer, we will be exhibiting our new work together at Sterling Studio during the annual Indianola Days Festival, August 1-3rd, 2014. This local celebration is planned around a minus tide, and Saturday, August 2nd, teams of local sand-sculptors of all ages and talents create their art in the sand. We’ll keep you posted on the details as summer comes around.
Here are a few images of the 2013 Sterling Studio Art in the Woods exhibit online collaboration software.

I am especially grateful for Sydni Sterling, for sharing her wonderful studio space with me, and for our many years of inspirational friendship.

About Melinda

Forty years ago, while sitting on the beach playing with my young children, I made my first basket out of a pile of willow trimmings someone had tossed there. It looked wildly made like a crazy bird’s nest. While being together with my two sons on a beautiful Pacific Northwest shoreline, this simple experience of crafting with the natural materials at hand kindled a passion for creating forms using plant fibers. I thank my family, my community, and all my teachers for cultivating this gift in me.
