There is a wonderful new resource for artisans brewing on Bainbridge Island, in Washington State.  It is called the Bainbridge Artisans Resource Network, or BARN. A place for artisans to learn, share tools, practice skills, and have space and opportunity to work and network. BARN has developed site and building designs with generous help from Johnpaul Jones, a world renowned Bainbridge-based architect, and PHC Construction and Asani, two BI design-build firms. Thanks to generous anonymous donors, BARN was able to pay for the property in full, and now the task of raising funds to build and equip the artisan center is at hand.

Now, the Rolling BARN is just about up and running.  What is Rolling BARN? It is an interum space in Rolling Bay Washington, that has been rented so artisans can begin the development of programs.  Why am I telling you this? Because I will be teaching a fun class there on Saturday, July 19th, 2014.

It will be the Wild Twined Herb and Flower Basket.  This is a great summer basket that utilizes materials from the garden along with the invasive English Ivy vines we are constantly trying to pull out of our landscapes to preserve our native forests.  For the full description please click on the name of this class. Registration and information about the cost, time, exact location, etc, will be forthcoming on the BARN website.

About Melinda

Forty years ago, while sitting on the beach playing with my young children, I made my first basket out of a pile of willow trimmings someone had tossed there. It looked wildly made like a crazy bird’s nest. While being together with my two sons on a beautiful Pacific Northwest shoreline, this simple experience of crafting with the natural materials at hand kindled a passion for creating forms using plant fibers. I thank my family, my community, and all my teachers for cultivating this gift in me.
