Sydni Sterling’s Studio

February 14, 2017 By Melinda

I’m fortunate to live in a community filled with artists and skilled artisans, people who work incredibly hard to create a nurturing place, who generously share their knowledge, tools, encouragement, advice, and in this case, also their studio space.

For countless years, Sydni has cleared out her painting studio, transformed it into a gallery, and shared her walls and pedestals with me.

Years ago, using old windows and other salvage materials, Syd transformed her small dilapidated garage, into her creative space, filled with natural light. I always look forward to each November, for the Art in the Woods Studio Tour, so we can display all our new pieces together. With every season, time, and life brings changes to our work in subtle and interesting ways.

About Melinda

Thirty years ago, while sitting on the beach playing with my young children, I made my first basket out of a pile of willow trimmings someone had tossed there. The experience of weaving with the materials at hand while being together with my sons on a beautiful Pacific Northwest shoreline, kindled a passion for creating art from natural plant materials. I thank my family, my community, and all my teachers for cultivating this gift in me.
