Please join Suquamish Elder, Master Weaver, carver, craftsman, and culture carrier, Ed Carriere, who with Plant Fiber Artist, Melinda West, are opening up the brand new Bainbridge Artisans Resource Network with an evening of learning. Ed Carriere will share some his own story of how weaving with plants has taken him around the world as he has learned to reconstruct weaving from 2000 , 3000, and 4500 year old basketry fragments. Two short films about Ed’s work, by Bainbridge Island Filmaker Katie Jennings, will be interspersed with Ed’s stories about each of the baskets he will bring for everyone to touch and hold. Come and enjoy seeing the new BARN and learn how the deep roots of Salish Weaving Cultures are alive and well today! Please follow the above link to register.

About Melinda

Forty years ago, while sitting on the beach playing with my young children, I made my first basket out of a pile of willow trimmings someone had tossed there. It looked wildly made like a crazy bird’s nest. While being together with my two sons on a beautiful Pacific Northwest shoreline, this simple experience of crafting with the natural materials at hand kindled a passion for creating forms using plant fibers. I thank my family, my community, and all my teachers for cultivating this gift in me.
